Ring Five Impact Docs has recently signed on to run the social media campaign for documentary film and interactive website, Finding Sally (currently in post-production)

Finding Sally is a personal investigation into the mysterious life of the director’s aunt Sally, an Ethiopian aristocrat-turned-communist-rebel who disappeared during the revolution that lead to the overthrow of Emperor Haile Selassie. Directed by Tamara Dawit, Finding Sally is produced by Catbird Productions (Montreal-based boutique production company). The doc will be broadcast on CBC’s Documentary channel.

Our Impact Goals with Finding Sally properties are:

1. To raise awareness and encourage discussion about Ethiopia’s significant and defining Red Terror period of violence, upheaval, and mass killings in the late 1970s.

2. To stimulate critical conversation about Ethiopia’s current social-political situation within this context and in connection to urgent global issues like: the rise of authoritarianism, weaknesses of the global justice system, human rights violations, freedom of speech, women change makers.

We are seeking a smart and engaged individual to assist the Campaign Social Media Manager and project Impact Producer in the delivery of an innovative, creative and powerful five-month long social media campaign (to be delivered in two separate time frames). We will work together to meet the impact goals as stated above.

No experience in documentary film is required (although that is a plus), if you have worked within the NGO/Charity sectors or on a social justice campaign you may be a perfect fit.

Candidates who have an interest or knowledge of Ethiopia's socio-political context and have spent time living/working in Ethiopia will be considered an asset.

Responsibilities:

  • write timely, topical and culturally sensitive posts aimed specifically to Ethiopian diaspora and local communities (guidance will be provided by the film’s director when applicable) 


  • posts will be written in both English and Amharic as needed and will be tailored differently to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, You Tube platforms 


  •  translate existing key promotional posts and key promotional assets (graphics/videos/GIFs) from English to Amharic

Qualifications: 


  • must be fluent in spoken and written Amharic and English 


  • deep familiarity and experience using social media either personally or for work or both; 
comfort using and posting on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, You Tube 


  • excellent copywriting skills 


  • interest in social justice issues, activism, history and contemporary socio-political issues, 
community engagement 


  • comfortable working remotely but as part of a team 


  • respond to posts in a timely fashion and moderate online discussions in Amharic as needed 


  • assist with online outreach and engagement tactics as they relate to Ethiopian audiencesnt
